Farmers protest in Noida turns violent

Clashes between farmers and policemen turned violent today in Noida. Farmers were protesting against land acquisition and demanded employment.


Two Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel and a villager have been killed in the violent clash between farmers of Bhatta Parsaul village and the police. Deepak Aggarwal, Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate was injured in the clash.



Armed with sticks, the farmers indulged in heavy stone throwing when police tried to rescue the hostage. Police then used teargas shells to disperse the farmers in a bid to rescue the hostages and had to resort to firing in the air to control the situation. The police, however, managed to free all three hostages safely, said Uttar Pradesh DGP Karamveer Singh.

The farmers had retaliated by firing back on the police force killing two PAC personnel and injuring Aggarwal. He was taken to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
Aggarwal is an Uttar Pradesh cadre, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 2000 batch.
